The Peace Of His Protection
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.”
When I was in Second Grade there was a bully who made it his desire to show me he could threaten me, and even beat me up. I hated getting up in the morning and knowing that I would have to leave the protection of my Dad and that the bully Allen would be at school.
One day I as I sat at my desk I saw the familiar head of my Dad walking outside the classroom. The class had a wall of windows, but because of posters all I could see was my Dad’s head; the very top of his head, but I knew without a doubt it was my Daddy!
He was coming to class to speak to the teacher about the bully. I never felt so safe in that classroom as when I saw him walk in that room; I also felt alone when I saw him walk out and wished so hard that I could go with him.
Thankfully I had a friend, Billy who took up for me, and helped me deal with the bully. Jesus is so much more than Billy, and so much more than my Dad. He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother!
God’s promises are very clear that in Him, and for those who abide in His shadow, there is peace!
These are tumultuous times we live in, and everyday there seems to be more news of evil and terror around the world, and even in our communities. Fear can seem to be around every corner, but for a believer who puts their complete and total trust in God, there is the peace of knowing his protection right where you are.
Confession: “I dwell in the shelter and the secret place of God Almighty, and I say that He is who I put my trust in. I have Him as my refuge and protection, and I never walk in fear at night, nor day, because He is with me!”
